Being away from home, taking your own decisions, meeting with new people, and taking your own responsibilities – all these things make you independent, but as the days go by, this excitement starts turning into tiredness, unhealthiness, and laziness. The biggest reason for this is our spoiled lifestyle.
Often, students live far from their homes in a hostel or PG, so their daily routine becomes very irregular. Staying up late at night, waking up in the late morning, eating food not on time, having a habit of eating junk food, and not exercising at all. All these together have a very bad effect on our body health. Gradually, the body becomes lazy and tired, and mental irritability sets in.
But the question is, can we stay fit in a hostel or PG? And the answer is yes, you definitely can; you just have to be aware, disciplined, and self-controlled.

Living in a hostel or PG, the first thing that gets spoiled is eating habits. At home, when Mom used to give food three times a day, my health remained good, even if I did not want it. But often the food in the hostel is tasteless, undercooked, or oily. In such a situation. Many students skip meals or start eating fatty food from outside.
First of all, it is important to understand that food is like fuel for our bodies. If you don’t eat a full and balanced meal, then it will affect your energy, concentration, and mood. Whether you like the food or not, you have to eat two meals a day. that has a balance of chapati, pulse, rice, and vegetables. If you ever don’t like a hostel meal, then keep some healthy options like dry fruits, peanuts, fruits, or puffed rice.
Eating food once in a while is okay, but if it is your daily habit, then it could be converted into obesity, acidity, digestive problems, and lethargy. So try to eat outside once a week, and that should be balanced.
Ignoring sleep is the biggest mistake.

The freedom of the hostel first attacks sleep. When no one is there to interrupt, students use their mobile phones, watch films, and stay awake for no reason. Then they get up late in the morning, miss their class, and due to lack of sleep, they feel lethargic and irritable throughout the day.
Sleep heals our body. When we sleep, our brain removes fatigue, strengthens our memory, and boosts our immune system. That’s why getting 6 to 8 hours of sleep is mandatory. Fix your sleep & get-up time. and act upon it.
If it is possible, then sleep till 11 AM and wake up between 6 and 7 AM. This small change in your daily routine will take your mental and physical health in a very positive direction.
Don’t even imagine fitness without exercise.

In hostel life, we always think that climbing stairs and going to college is fit. But in reality, the real fitness doesn’t come from movement. It comes from daily exercises.
If you don’t have time & resources to go to the gym, no problem; you can do yoga, push-ups, squats, stretching, or jumping rope. You can start from this type of simple activity. If your park is nearby, then you can walk and jog for 20 minutes. Climbing stairs is also a good cardio activity.
If you sweat a little every day, your body becomes agile, your mind stays fresh, and you sleep better. A 10-minute warmup during a study break can also be very effective. You just need to make it a habit.
Don’t forget to drink water.

The most common negligence of a student is not drinking enough water throughout the day. Especially in the winter season or while they are busy studying, they forget how important it is for the body to keep hydrated.
Drinking less water can cause problems like headaches, constipation, fatigue, and lack of concentration to occur. That’s why you should always keep a water bottle with you. Drinking 2 to 3 L of water throughout the day is very important for your health. If you forgot to drink, then use the water reminder app on your mobile phone.
Friendship and companionship make or break your fitness.

You spend most of your time in a hostel or PG with your roommates and friends, and if their habits are bad, like staying awake till late at night, bringing food from outside every day, and using phones throughout the day, then you will become like them.
But if anyone in your group is doing things like waking up early in the morning, going on a walk, or eating healthy food. Then eating food together or going for a walk together – all these things can make fitness fun.
Learn to motivate yourself.

You have to motivate yourself to stay fit; no one is going to tell you to exercise or force you to eat fruits, so these things you have to do for your own. Look at yourself in the mirror and think, are you living with the same energy as a young person should?
Set a short goal, for example, walking every day for a week or eating one fruit every day. When you finish this, you will automatically feel ready to take the next step.
Along with freedom comes responsibility.

Hostel and physical life teach a lot of things: self-confidence, being alone, and taking responsibility for yourself. This is the time when you decide how you treat your body and health. No matter how much pressure there is due to studies, with a little understanding and planning, you can keep yourself completely fit and healthy.
Your body is your real strength. If you don’t take care of it now, then later on, your body will not listen to you. Therefore, this freedom of keeping yourself under control is the real wisdom.
